NEWSLETTER SUMMER 2024
pascal@taraindia.org

Dear Friends,

We are pleased to present this summer edition of our newsletter presenting our latest projects and initiatives, the children’s achievements and our plans to expand our activities in India. Together we can build a better future.

 Happy reading!

We’re growing this year!

Komuha Jajuo, Head of Family Based Programs, with children from Sanjay Colony

We are pleased to announce the coming launch of a new outreach centre at Sanjay Colony in South Delhi. Sanjay Colony is known for its migrant community where people from all over India come in search of work in the Indian capital. The living conditions here are very challenging and the children of these migrant workers are often left to fend for themselves.

With the help of a group of volunteers, TARA conducted a research project to understand the special needs of this community. This is the second such centre which is part of our family-based programs. Helping parents in distress can prevent children from being separated from their families.

Similar to the TARA Outreach Centre in  Saidulajab, this new centre aims to provide a safe environment for families through academic support, health screening services, awareness building for health-related issues, legal assistance as well as regular home visits.

A big thank you to all our volunteers and donors without whose help this project would not have been possible. Together, we can help these families build a better future for their children.

Arun from TARA Big Birds helped with the field study. The children asked him where he was from and in response he drew a map of the world.

Summer holiday activities

The summer holidays in Delhi stretch from May to June. It is the time for the children to have fun with activities and excursions while the older teenagers sign up for internships to explore their interests.

The French Institute, the French embassy restaurant, Ginny’s Planet (a social enterprise), Well Done Art Academy, Robinhood Army, Boulder Box, a farm with a community program as well as the Partnerships and Communications team at TARA, TARA Tots and the TARA Outreach Centre have accepted our young friends for month-long internships.

Find out more here.

100% success rate this year once again!
Celebrating success at TARA Boys

If you haven’t been following us on social media and you aren’t a sponsor, you probably missed the big news.

We are very pleased to announce that six of the children in class 10 and class 12 have passed their end of year exams with flying colours.

In particular we would like to mention Noorjahan who got 81% for her 12th year finals. These results are all the more impressive when you remember that when she arrived at TARA at the age of 9, she had not been attending school regularly and only spoke Urdu. She subsequently learnt Hindi and English to keep up with lessons in school and quickly understood the importance of getting an education. Her success is a lesson in courage and resilience.

TARA Training Centre provides training as far away as Southern India!

In June, Basanti Caroline Roublin, Executive Director at TARA conducted training sessions in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu at six institutes dedicated to child welfare and protection.  The program included the following:

  • Defining long-term goals to develop a clear, child-centred approach.
  • Individualized care practices to equip participants with the skills for providing services tailored to the unique needs of each child.
  • Address fears and challenges by offering strategies to overcome obstacles and identify opportunities for growth.

With these trainings, we seek to improve skills to build a nurturing environment that promotes the overall well-being and development of children in these institutions across India, ensuring that every child receives the care and attention they need to fully blossom.

We are convinced that it is also TARA's role to share its good practices which have shown positive results with the children we nurture.
